Walking – A Natural exercise
Walking is a natural, simple and safe form of exercise and is easy to make it a regular routine. No cost is involved, it can be done anywhere and at any time. Strolling or casual walking is not and exercise.
Brisk
walking amounts to exercise as it demands large quantities of oxygen into our system. The heart pumps blood faster and greater oxygen is introduced into our lungs. This leads to vascular endurance i.e. sustained ability of heart, lungs and blood to take oxygen from the air and deliver it to the body.
Resting Heart Rate is index Fitness
Resting heart rate is an index of our fitness. Heat rate can be measured by counting our pulse rate. Take your pulse rate the moment you get up in the morning. It is in a minute :
100/90 you are Unfit, 80 of Average health
70/60 you are Fit and 50 and below you are very Fit
By exercise, the resting heart rate can be lowered. We have to realise that a fit heart pumps more blood with each heart beat than an unfit heart It has been found that an unfit heart beats 50,000 times more per day and 17 million more times in an year than a fit heart As the
heart functions without stopping, an effort should be made to lessen its work.
N.B : Persons having heart problems, high blood pressure, sever back pain, severe arthritis and pregnant women should take docotor’s advise before embarking on a
walking programme.
