Dental Hygiene, one must imagine one’s mouth in the mirror frequently. Change in color or contour of the gums, presence of calculus and black spots or open cavities of the teeth which may otherwise go unnoticed, can be detected. If one sees any such abnormality, then the next best thing is to consult a
dentist as soon as possible.
Calculus Removal: In most people we notice formation of calculus at the necks of the teeth, which may be colored brown, black or blackish. This cannot be removed by brushing; it can only be removed by a
dental hygienist with the help of a cavitron or a scaler. This machine helps in removing the calculus plaque and the stains present between the teeth in the interdental space.
If the calculus is not removed the gums which is in close relation gets inflamed resulting in bleeding from the
gums. Ninety-nine percent of the bleeding from the gums is due to this local factor calculus. It is not a regular flowing blood, but it is mostly saliva with serum which is reddish tinged.
There are many who complain of the bleeding from the gums, during sleep. By having the prophylaxis the calculus can be removed, the gum will be back to normal and the bleeding from the gums will stop.
Dental Hygiene is mostly due to the negative pressure created in the mouth at the time of sleeping and from the gums which are inflamed and edematous exclude serum from the gums.
