Heart Ailments
The average age of a human being has increased tremendously all over the world. It is now varying between 80 – 90 in some countries like USA, United Kingdom and some European countries. The result is that the age dependent diseases like
heart diseases, cancer, diabetes and diseases resulting from pollution of air, water and adulterated food are increasing.
The scientific knowledge and the analysis of
human physiology have added to our understanding facts and figures to an unimaginable magnitude. But many academically concerned materials are adding conflicting and heterogeneous view and patients pick up uncritical reports of new discoveries,
diagnosis, and treatment through radio, press, television and lay magazines and use procedures, though some of them are still speculative or clinically and practically inapplicable.
In heart disease, especially the Ischemic
heart diseases, several risk factors are determined which have a bearing on the onset, progress, prognosis and treatment of them these factors are:
- Unbalanced diet.
- Sedentary habits.
- Smoking.
- Alcohol and other addictions.
- Mental and emotional instability
- Sex and
- Uncontrolled Hypertension and Diabetes.
One has to realize that they are factors which may involve the heart but any one of them is not “the factor” responsible for a particular disease. What the treating physician and
cardiologist need is to acquire themselves with the research methodology, and be careful in their application and realize that there is a vast breach still between the practice and principles and that the science is not complete. In these risk factors enumerated, it is the law of average that needs appraisal and not unlimited restrictions on an innocent patient and makes his life miserable.
