Information on Diabets



Diabetes mellitus means an increase in blood sugar above normal level. This happens because of reduced secretion of the hormone, insulin which maintains the boiled sugar at a normal level.

The common symptoms of diabets are excess thirst, excess hunger and excess urination and wounds not healing. The most commonly seen diabetes i.e. Type 2 or non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.

When the disease is detected, it is quite mild for the first two or three years and is controlled with diet modification and some exercise. The patient does not generally require tablets and methi seeeds or karela. Later he will require tablets and after a few years when the sugar does not come under control even with maximum does of tablets, he will need insulin for life. This generally takes 10 – 15 years in our Indian population Diabetes is commonly associated with hypertension and Hyperlipedemia. Diabets affects organs like brain, eye heart, kidney and nerves.

With some changes in lifestyle and diet habits like eating moderately, eating on time, taking medication regularly, going for periodic check – up , avoiding stressful life, avoiding risk factors like smoking, alcohol, and excess weight and taking regular exercise the patient can lead a near normal life.
